Why do I need to pay

THE MOST COMMON QUESTION THAT VOLUNTEERS ASK US IS ‘WHY DO I NEED TO PAY, TO VOLUNTEER?

As a genuine and reliable volunteer program in Sri Lanka since 2014, like any other organization we too have daily expenditures in placing and accommodating the volunteers in our programs in Sri Lanka. The fee is used for the placement, administration and upkeep of the projects in Sri Lanka. We have tried to show in the graph below, where the money is used by Volunteer Lanka.

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT COSTS INCLUDE

Apart from regular donations to projects from the volunteer’s program fee, Volunteer Lanka also works to provide regular maintenance to its projects in Sri Lanka. This includes timely visits to projects to access their need and provide assistance where needed. This also includes things like providing scholarships, painting of schools, and donating of books, clothes and computer equipment. We also undertake work to build local schools, libraries, playgrounds like – badminton court etc in certain schools and projects we work with.

 

ADMINISTRATION COSTS INCLUDE

These are the costs without which running this program would not be possible for our volunteers. These include daily office expenses, travel, maintenance etc. as below: –

INTERNSHIP & VOLUNTEER AT NATIONAL ZOO IN SRI LANKA (MEDICINE/ VETERINARY/BUSINESS )

Our Program Fee Includes: 

  1. Accommodation
  2. Three meals a day
  3. Airport pick-up 
  4. Full induction and orientation by an experienced staff member on arrival
  5. Transport to and from your work placement
  6. In-country support and 24-hour back-upfrom our team of full-time local staff
  7. Emergency assistance from our emergency response team
  8. A supervisor/mentor at your work placement
  9. Training and workshops from our experienced local staff
  10. Regular social events and community activities with other volunteers
  11. Access to our local office with internet connection
  12. Certification of project completion
  13. Middle School Specials, High School Specials, 19+ Specialsand Grown-up Specials also include organized weekend tourist trips
  14. Middle School Specialsand High School Specials also include dedicated full-time staff members with you 24 hours a day

 

The price also covers support and preparation before you go, including:

  1. Visa support and advice
  2. Fundraising support, including your own personalized fundraising website
  3. Pre-departure preparation by your own specialist Volunteer Advisor
  4. Personalized help & assistance with all the information you need about your project, accommodation and destination
  5. A free cultural awareness course
  6. Standard Projects, 19+ SpecialsandProjects for Professionals also include support to help you complete registration or internship documents, if applicable

The price does not include:

  1. Flights
  2. Visa costs(where applicable)
  3. Travel and medical insurance

Note:

  •  On request, we can arrange drop-off to Colombo International Airport in Katunayake with sightseeing of  Colombo on extra cost ($85/ride) expenditure.
  •  Upon arrival, our in-country coordinator and staff will be there to pick you up. Please do not forget to send us your flight information and we guarantee, you will never miss us.

Volunteer Teaching in our day Care Centers can make a contribution to the field of education in Sri Lanka. By opting for the Orphanage Volunteering program, volunteers are given a chance to mingle with the ill-fated children abandoned by their parents as infants. As a volunteer, one can contribute to the orphans by helping them learn to read and write, regulating their daily meals, making playtime arrangements for them and influencing them to go ahead in life and lead change. The Elephant Care Volunteering program help the mahouts and their elephants in taking caring of them. Women’s Shelter Volunteering uplifts the weaker sex by helping them find meaning in life after enduring suffering. The Medical Volunteering program allows volunteers a chance to contribute to the healthcare system of the country and the Environmental Volunteering program helps volunteers play their part for a greener earth.
